Is there a deadline to register to vote?
Yes, in Ohio you must register or update your voter registration no later than 30 days prior to an election. Upcoming voter registration deadlines:
-
February 20, 2024 for the March 19, 2024 Presidential Primary Election
-
July 8, 2024 for the August 6, 2024 Special Election
-
October 7, 2024 for the November 5, 2024 General Election
I heard over 100,000 Ohioans were purged from the voter roles. How do I know if I'm still registered to vote?
Voters can and have been removed from the voter rolls, prohibiting you from voting. Check your registration status by visiting https://voterlookup.ohiosos.gov/voterlookup.aspx

What if I don't have a state ID?
If you go vote without a state ID, you will be required to use a provisional ballot. In order for your vote to count, you will have 4 days to take a qualified state ID to the Board of Elections to verify your eligibility to vote. In 2022, there were more than 40,000 provisional ballots cast in Summit County and prior voting rules allowed for 10 days to correct any registration issues. The rules passed in December 2022 shorten the ballot cure process to 4 days and we expect many more people to have to use provisional ballots because they don't have the proper ID. This is what the GOP intended to dissuade people from exercising their right to vote! So, to avoid getting stuck in very long lines at the Board of Education after Election Day, please make sure you have a Driver's License, free state-issued photo ID, military IDÂ or U.S. passport when you go to vote.
How do I get an absentee ballot?
There are two ways to get an absentee ballot if you vote in Ohio:
You can go online and print out the application request form, fill it out and mail it to your county Board of Elections. You can find the Ohio absentee ballot form here.
You can call your county Board of Elections and ask them to mail you an absentee ballot request.
Either way, you must mail or hand-deliver the application request form to your county Board of Elections to get the actual absentee ballot.
