Contact Your Elected Leaders
There are lots of ways to contact your elected officials. Elected leaders keep track of messages. It helps inform them of how the public feels about an issue. Even your favorite legislator needs to hear from you. If they don’t they may not think a particular issue is very important.
What to know
Option 1: Write a letter or postcard
Letters at the state level get handed directly to the elected official. Postcards are more likely to be tallied for point of view and reported out. You are more likely to get a written response BUT letters should only be sent if the response is not time sensitive, ie. a bill about to be voted on
Option 2: Email
Emails are also more likely to be tallied.
Option 3: Call
Often you get an answering machine. You don’t have to call during business hours to leave a message. Convenient if you work. You can ask for a written response. Do your best to be polite to the person answering the phone. It’s a young person on a job. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be direct about where you stand on an issue.
Option 4: Use RESISTBOT
